Senior Compiler Engineer – Rust GPU
Role Summary
Join a systems-compiler team building Rust-native compiler pipelines and tooling to enable memory-safe, high-performance GPU programming on NVIDIA hardware.
The role focuses on compiler backends, IR frameworks, JIT/AOT workflows, and device-side abstractions to map Rust to CUDA/PTX and GPU machine code.

Senior — typically requires 5+ years of relevant compiler, language, or GPU code-generation experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing compiler systems and GPU-targeting code generation.
- Design, implement, and maintain Rust-to-GPU compiler backends and Rust-native IR frameworks (rustc codegen, proc-macros).
- Lower Rust AST/MIR into IRs such as MLIR, PTX, and LLVM and implement GPU-specific optimizations.
- Build and maintain AOT, JIT, and link-time optimization workflows across NVIDIA GPU families and host platforms.
- Architect compiler-enforced safety models extending Rust ownership/borrowing across host-device boundaries to prevent data races.
- Implement ergonomic, type-safe device-side abstractions for GPU primitives (shared memory, barriers, atomics, TMA, warp/cluster ops).
- Profile, benchmark, debug, and optimize compiler pipelines and GPU kernels; drive features from research to production.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in compiler development, language design, or GPU code generation.
- Deep expertise in Rust, including knowledge of rustc internals, MIR, procedural macros, and the borrow checker.
- Hands-on experience with compiler infrastructures and code generation (LLVM IR, MLIR, or custom IRs).
- Strong understanding of parallel programming models, GPU architectures, and CUDA programming.
- Proven software design skills and experience with debugging, profiling, and benchmarking compilers and GPU kernels.
- Ability to work independently, set scope and goals, and drive complex engineering projects from research to production.
Nice-to-have:
- Contributions to rustc, Cargo tooling, or open-source Rust-to-GPU projects.
- Experience building custom compiler front-ends, AST translators, or JIT engines; familiarity with MLIR.
- Deep low-level GPU programming experience with modern hardware features (Tensor Cores, warp-level ops, async transfers).
- Experience designing DSLs or tile-based abstractions for tensor processing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
