Job Title

Senior Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Own the design, implementation, and scaling of automated test racks and benches for characterization and design validation testing (DVT) of highly integrated RF front-end modules (RF FEMs). Develop software tools and data pipelines to accelerate validation of RFEMs for 5G NR and future handset generations.

Work closely with RF IC and hardware design engineers during planning and validation phases; lead lab bring-up, debugging, and technician mentoring.

Experience Level

Senior. The posting specifies 3+ years of industry experience in mobile cellular/wireless RF validation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and scale automated RF test racks and benches for characterization and DVT of RF FEMs.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and software environments (VB.net, Python, C#, LabVIEW) for instrument control and measurement.
  • Partner with RF IC and hardware designers to align test methodologies with simulation models and propose targeted test routines.
  • Lead lab bring-up, DVT, and root-cause debugging of mobile prototype FEMs (PAs, LNAs, switches, integrated filters, MIPI RFFE programming).
  • Analyze and visualize measurement results and communicate findings to design teams.
  • Mentor technicians on software tools and laboratory equipment.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and skills:

  • 3+ years industry experience in mobile cellular/wireless RF validation.
  • Proven programming experience for instrument communication and measurements (examples: VB.net, Python, C++/C#).
  • Hands-on mastery of lab instruments: VNAs, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, power meters, and MIPI RFFE protocol analyzers.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3GPP standards (LTE, 5G NR, FR1/FR2) and/or Wi‑Fi architecture.
  • Ability to lead lab bring-up and perform comprehensive root-cause debugging of RF hardware.
  • Note: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship by the company.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing scalable test automation frameworks and data pipelines for high-volume characterization.
  • Familiarity with mobile handset RF front-end module architectures and PA/LNA performance trade-offs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with emphasis on RF/Microwave systems as stated in the posting.
