Job Title

Senior Avionics FPGA Design & Verification Engineer - TeraWave

Role Summary

Join the Spacecraft Systems team to design, develop, and verify FPGA-based avionics for Blue Origin's TeraWave satellite communications system. The role covers requirements definition, architecture, RTL design, verification, environmental qualification, and flight integration support for high-reliability satellite avionics.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 7+ years of experience in digital design and SoC architecture.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA-centric digital hardware and verification for flight avionics; participate across the design lifecycle from requirements through production release and flight support.

  • Design and develop digital hardware architectures for high-reliability satellite avionics.
  • Create and implement RTL for critical SoC blocks and interfaces.
  • Optimize architectures for performance, power, and cost trade-offs.
  • Collaborate on and execute design verification plans to ensure robust designs.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques (Assertion-Based Verification, UVM, constrained-random).
  • Support prototype development and early hardware validation.
  • Document design specifications, architecture decisions, and implementation details.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with cross-functional teams.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex digital design issues, including firmware/hardware interfaces.
  • Support integration, environmental qualification, and flight readiness activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and program eligibility.

  • 7+ years of experience in digital design and SoC architecture.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog or Verilog for RTL implementation.
  • Experience with SoC integration and interface design; knowledge of bus protocols such as AXI/AHB.
  • Understanding of digital timing, synchronization, and RTL-to-gates design flow; familiarity with synthesis tools.
  • Experience with simulation, debugging complex digital systems, and evaluation of code coverage metrics (e.g., QuestaSim).
  • Strong FPGA experience and FPGA tool flow knowledge.
  • Experience with assertion-based verification, UVM, and constrained-random techniques.
  • Ability to implement and verify interfaces between digital hardware and firmware/software.
  • Experience supporting prototype hardware and early validation activities.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) due to export-control requirements.
  • Nice-to-have: SoC-level architecture optimization for power/performance/cost and experience with production release processes for flight hardware.

Education Requirements

B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
