Senior ASIC Engineer

Role Summary

Join Cisco's Common Hardware Group (CHG) in San Jose to design and verify high-performance ASICs used in switching, routing, and wireless platforms. The role focuses on architecture, block- and chip-level verification, post-silicon bring-up, and creating reusable verification infrastructure.

Experience Level

Senior — requires substantial hands-on ASIC design and verification experience and leadership in verification methodology and lab bring-up (see Education Requirements for degree/experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Define architecture, design, and verification strategy for high-performance ASICs.
  • Own complex functional areas and lead block- and chip-level issue resolution.
  • Develop reusable verification and design code and lead platform-level code reviews.
  • Debug at ASIC, software, and hardware levels; support lab bring-up and post-silicon validation.
  • Define and evolve verification methodologies (UVM) and maintain regression/coverage dashboards.
  • Identify, design, and implement power-saving solutions.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience with ASIC design and verification processes, including SystemVerilog and UVM-based methodology.
  • Experience leading verification methodology for clusters/subsystems or full-chip level.
  • Post-silicon lab bring-up and silicon/hardware debugging experience.
  • Experience with regression, coverage, and DV dashboard management.
  • Proficiency in Linux and programming/scripting (C/C++, Python, Perl).
  • Experience with emulation platforms (Veloce, Palladium, Zebu, HAPS) and verification tools.
  • Strong debugging skills across ASIC, software, and hardware domains and familiarity with networking concepts.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience defining platform-level verification flow and reusable infrastructure.
  • Background in power-optimization techniques for ASICs.

Education Requirements
