Job Title

Senior ASIC Diagnostic Engineer

Role Summary

Designs, develops, and validates diagnostics, firmware, simulators, and emulators for HPE Slingshot high-performance networking ASICs and boards. The role supports NIC and switch bring-up, debug, and verification in a cross-functional, multi-site engineering organization.

Works closely with ASIC, board, firmware, and software teams to define and implement reliable diagnostic and firmware solutions used in large-scale HPC and AI systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting specifies 6+ years of experience in ASIC diagnostics or silicon validation.

Responsibilities

Contribute to architecture, design, implementation, and test of diagnostics, firmware, simulators, and emulators for ASICs and boards. Provide technical leadership across projects and mentor junior engineers.

  • Design, develop, and maintain diagnostics, firmware, simulators, and emulators for ASICs and NIC/switch boards.
  • Lead and review complex designs to ensure compliance with development standards and product quality.
  • Coordinate cross-team integration and platform-level debugging during bring-up and validation.
  • Drive architecture and platform decisions for diagnostic and firmware solutions.
  • Manage and mentor other engineers and external development partners.
  • Integrate new technologies and tools into diagnostic and simulation workflows.
  • Provide troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for silicon, board, and firmware issues.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.

  • Must-have: Expert-level C and Python development experience in a Linux environment (industry experience noted).
  • Must-have: Proven experience in ASIC diagnostics or silicon validation (6+ years indicated in posting).
  • Working knowledge of NIC, Ethernet, and SerDes development and debug.
  • Working knowledge of Linux drivers and switch development/debug.
  • Familiarity with firmware, simulation, and emulation tools and workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to perform root-cause analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience leading cross-organizational projects or managing external development partners.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
