Senior ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Common Hardware Group (CHG) to design ASICs that power Cisco switching, routing, and wireless products. The role focuses on RTL design, timing closure, and collaboration across verification and physical design to deliver silicon from specification through post-silicon validation.
Experience Level
Senior - position expects experienced engineers. The posting indicates 7+ years of ASIC design related experience for candidates without an advanced degree (see Education Requirements for degree/yOE equivalencies).
Responsibilities
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Author design specifications and participate in micro-architecture reviews.
- Implement Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL to meet timing, performance, and power targets.
- Develop and analyze functional coverage and work with verification to close coverage gaps and address corner cases.
- Collaborate with physical design engineers to resolve timing, placement, and routing issues.
- Perform diagnostics and post-silicon validation tests in the lab.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Hands-on experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog and RTL development.
- Strong RTL skills and practical experience with timing closure, power optimization, and clock gating techniques.
- Familiarity with the full ASIC design flow, including place-and-route interactions.
- Debugging and scripting skills to diagnose issues and automate workflows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with verification and physical design teams and to support lab validation.
Nice-to-have:
- At least one full ASIC tapeout (advanced process nodes preferred).
- Experience with advanced timing closure methodologies and low-power design techniques.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications specify one of: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 7+ years ASIC design experience; Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4+ years ASIC design experience; or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 1+ year ASIC design experience. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of degree-based credentials.
