Senior Applications Engineer (Firmware) - SCG

Role Summary

Member of Microchip's Security Computer Group (SCG) Applications Engineering team based in Taipei, collaborating closely with the Hauppauge, NY team. The role supports microprocessor-based products for tablets, desktops, notebooks, and embedded systems through firmware development, hardware evaluation, and customer technical support.

Experience Level

Senior β€” minimum ~7.5 years of relevant industry experience; experienced individual contributor working with cross-functional engineering and customer teams.

Responsibilities

Work across product evaluation, firmware development, hardware support, documentation, and customer enablement.

  • Develop low-level MCU firmware modules, real-time kernel components, and host utilities.
  • Evaluate device functionality by developing software and hardware test platforms and reference designs.
  • Design and support evaluation boards: review schematics, provide layout input, and assist fabrication.
  • Prepare technical documentation: application notes, design guides, and user manuals.
  • Support customers and FAEs in deploying SCG products and troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues.
  • Create demos and proof-of-concept platforms to support sales and marketing efforts.
  • Train FAEs and provide ongoing technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Travel internationally as required (approx. 25%–50%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, practical lab experience, and interpersonal capabilities.

  • Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded development.
  • Strong understanding of embedded microprocessor design and internal architecture.
  • Experience developing and debugging embedded microcontroller firmware and real-time components.
  • Experience in both digital and analog circuit design; strong hardware/software integration skills.
  • Familiarity with PC hardware architecture and I/O subsystems (address decoding, programmable peripherals, keyboard controllers).
  • Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and common bench equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry specifications and interfaces such as eSPI, LPC, QSPI, I2C/SMBus, I3C, USB, MCTP, PECI, PCI, cryptographic functions, and CAN.
  • Self-motivated, project-oriented, able to work effectively in cross-functional and customer-facing teams; strong communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with Zephyr RTOS.
