Job Title

Senior Applications Engineer, Firmware (Security Computer Group)

Role Summary

Location: Taipei. Member of Microchip's Security Computer Group (SCG) Applications Engineering team supporting microprocessor-based products for tablets, desktops, notebooks, and embedded systems. The role develops and validates firmware and evaluation platforms and supports customer deployment.

Responsibilities

Key duties include developing firmware, supporting customers, and enabling product evaluation and adoption.

  • Develop low-level MCU firmware modules, real-time kernel components, and host utilities.
  • Design, review, and support customer-facing evaluation boards (schematic review, layout input, fabrication support).
  • Integrate and debug hardware/software interactions; use lab instruments to characterize and troubleshoot designs.
  • Prepare technical documentation: application notes, design guides, and user manuals.
  • Train and support FAEs and customers; assist sales and marketing with demos and proof-of-concept platforms.
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, validation engineers, marketing, sales, and field teams.
  • Provide customer support for deploying SCG products and features.
  • Travel to customer sites and partner locations as required (estimated 25%–50%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding of embedded microprocessor design and internal architecture.
  • Experience in both digital and analog circuit design.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware architecture and I/O subsystems (address decoding, programmable peripheral ICs, keyboard controllers).
  • Proven experience developing and debugging embedded microcontroller firmware and hardware/software integration.
  • Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar test equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; able to work in cross-functional teams and support customers.
  • Willingness and ability to apply industry-standard interfaces and specifications such as eSPI, LPC, QSPI, I2C/SMBus, I3C, USB, MCTP, PECI, PCI, cryptographic security functions, and CAN.
  • Comfortable with travel (approximately 25%–50%).

Preferred: Familiarity with Zephyr RTOS.
