Senior Applications Engineer, Applications Engineering
SynopsysJob Title
Senior Applications Engineer, Applications Engineering
Role Summary
Provide field-level technical support and enablement for Synopsys Hardware Assisted Verification (HAV) solutions, primarily Zebu Emulation and Protocompiler Prototyping. Work across customers, R&D, and sales to resolve integration, partitioning, synthesis, place-and-route, and hardware debug issues.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical background: 1β3 years of hands-on experience in FPGA, emulation, or prototyping environments working directly with customer designs and deployment.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include customer-facing support, technical enablement, and collaboration with R&D and sales.
- Troubleshoot customer issues across partitioning, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and hardware debug for emulation and prototyping flows.
- Migrate customer designs to new software releases and resolve regressions or performance problems.
- Deploy and validate new software features on customer designs, including advanced partitioning and debug capabilities.
- Deliver technical training and enablement for customers on multi-FPGA partitioning and hardware-software co-verification workflows.
- Collaborate with HAV R&D to provide reproducible test cases, detailed bug reports, and product improvement suggestions.
- Support pre-sales evaluations by running customer designs and demonstrating tool performance and limitations.
- Occasional onsite travel for critical issue resolution, training, or customer support.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; listed items separate required from preferred.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with FPGA logic design and implementation, including synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Must-have: Ability to read, debug, and modify RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL) written by others.
- Must-have: Practical knowledge of FPGA architecture and backend implementation flows, including resource utilization, clock-domain crossing, and design partitioning.
- Must-have: Proven ability to reproduce customer issues, analyze logs/waveforms/utilization reports, and present actionable context to R&D.
- Preferred: Exposure to Xilinx or Intel/Altera synthesis tools and familiarity with Synopsys prototyping/emulation hardware and software.
- Preferred: Experience with interface protocols such as PCIe, AXI, UART, or I2C in hardware-software integration contexts.
- Preferred: Scripting skills (Python, Tcl, shell) for automating tasks and log analysis.
- Other: Customer-facing communication skills, ability to work across time zones, and calm troubleshooting under pressure.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's in Electronics Engineering with 2β3 years of relevant experience, or Masterβs in Electronics Engineering with 1β2 years of relevant experience in emulation or prototyping environments (as stated in source).
