Senior Application Engineer – Physical Design
Role Summary
Provide technical support and engineering solutions for advanced ASIC Physical Design implementation flows. Work with semiconductor customers and internal R&D to debug, optimize, and deploy Synopsys physical implementation technologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires 3+ years of experience in ASIC Physical Design, Design Implementation, or Application Engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer support, methodology development, and technical enablement across the full implementation flow.
- Provide technical support and engineering solutions for Physical Design implementation flows.
- Debug and optimize customer designs across floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis (CTS), routing, and timing closure.
- Collaborate with global Application Engineers and R&D to reproduce issues, analyze root causes, and deliver fixes or workarounds.
- Drive power, performance, area (PPA) improvements and assist with signoff flows (DRC/LVS closure, STA, extraction).
- Deliver technical presentations, customer trainings, methodology reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Support adoption and deployment of Synopsys tools such as Fusion Compiler and IC Compiler II (ICC2).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience, plus a few desirable additions.
- Must-have: 3+ years in ASIC Physical Design, Design Implementation, or Application Engineering.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with Synopsys Fusion Compiler and/or IC Compiler II (ICC2).
- Must-have: Solid knowledge of floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, timing closure, DRC/LVS closure, and PPA optimization.
- Must-have: Familiarity with static timing analysis (STA), extraction, physical verification, and signoff methodologies.
- Must-have: Scripting experience (Tcl, Perl, Python, or Shell) and strong debugging/problem-solving skills.
- Must-have: Strong customer-facing and English communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with PrimeTime, StarRC, IC Validator (ICV), DSO.ai, or other AI-driven optimization tools.
