Job Title

Senior Application Engineer – GCS (Virtuoso)

Role Summary

Provide post‑sales technical support and engineering consultation for Cadence Custom IC products in the Virtuoso tool family, helping customers resolve complex design and flow issues. Work within the ASK organization to debug customer problems, collaborate with R&D on fixes and enhancements, and produce technical knowledge artifacts.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting lists experience ranges of 2–5 years and 4–7 years; expect approximately 4–7 years of relevant hands-on experience supporting EDA tools and customer flows.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer support, problem isolation, and knowledge creation.

  • Respond to and resolve technical customer issues for Custom IC tools (Virtuoso family) across front‑end and back‑end flows.
  • Perform flow setup, debug complex design and simulation problems, and provide implementation guidance to customers.
  • Collaborate with Product R&D to reproduce, prioritize, and validate bug fixes and product enhancements.
  • Create and maintain technical content for the support knowledge base to enable customer self‑help.
  • Work on cross‑functional projects to improve support processes and tool usability.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to customers and internal teams; present solutions and workarounds when required.

Requirements

Must-have technical and behavioral skills; degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Hands-on experience with Virtuoso Schematic Editor, Virtuoso Analog Design Environment, Virtuoso Layout Suite, and Design Framework II (DFII).
  • Experience with SPICE simulators, mixed‑signal simulation, PCells, OpenAccess, technology files, installation/licensing, and tool customization (SKILL).
  • Practical knowledge of standard cell or library characterization and related EDA flows.
  • Proven debugging and problem‑isolation skills in customer environments.
  • Prior technical customer support experience and the ability to work across functions and geographies.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to create clear documentation and knowledge articles.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with competitor or in‑house EDA tools and prior engagement with product teams on feature improvements.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Embedded Systems, or a closely related technical field (BE/BTech/ME/MS/MTech/PhD). The posting also accepts equivalent practical experience in lieu of a listed degree.
