Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of Acacia's mixed-signal IC design group responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring, and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers. The role collaborates with digital/DSP, system, package, and module design teams to deliver 100G–1T products.
This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA (three days per week onsite).
Experience Level
Senior-level. Cisco's stated minimums: BSEE +12 years, MS +8 years, or PhD +5 years (or equivalent practical experience).
Responsibilities
Deliver complex high-speed AMS blocks from concept through production and provide technical leadership.
- Architect, design, layout, measure, and productize CMOS-based analog and mixed-signal ICs for optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; track deliverables and participate in peer reviews.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, PLLs, data converters, op-amps, VGAs, equalizers) and ensure testability and manufacturability.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish robust design methodology from conception to production.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and preferred skills.
- Must-have: Design, simulation, and measurement experience of high-speed ICs across at least three areas such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock distribution, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Must-have: Proven track record delivering high-speed AMS circuits to production.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable), FinFET technology, and mixed-signal simulation tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX).
- Nice-to-have: High-frequency layout (passives, transformers, transmission lines), custom transistor layout, floorplanning, design-for-manufacturability, and ESD laboratory practices.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: BSEE with 12+ years' experience, MS with 8+ years' experience, or PhD with 5+ years' experience — each may be met by equivalent practical experience. Fields implied include electrical, analog, or mixed-signal engineering or related technical disciplines.
