Job Title

Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Member of a mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed and high-accuracy analog circuits for Acacia optical transceivers (100G, 400G, 1T). Work spans architecture, circuit design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS ICs intended for integration into optical transceiver ASICs.

Experience Level

Senior. Cisco lists minimum experience ranges by degree (see Education Requirements) β€” typically a senior hire with multi-year analog/mixed-signal IC design experience; expect 8+ years typical depending on degree and background.

Responsibilities

Drive complex analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept through production and collaborate across IP, DSP/digital, package and module teams.

  • Architect, design, simulate, layout and measure high-speed AMS ICs in advanced CMOS processes.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; own deliverables and milestones.
  • Mentor and review work of other engineers; establish design methodology and perform peer reviews.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Develop test plans and participate in lab characterization and validation of designs.
  • Support design-for-manufacturability and productionization activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.

  • Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in multiple areas such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, PLLs/clock distribution, output drivers, voltage regulators, op-amps, PGAs and equalizers.
  • Experience with high-speed serial links and transceiver architectures (backplane, cable, optical link contexts preferred).
  • Hands-on mixed-signal simulation experience (Spectre/APS/SpectreX or equivalent) and lab measurement experience.
  • Layout experience including high-frequency layout, transmission lines and floorplanning for mixed-signal chips.
  • Experience ensuring designs meet manufacturability, ESD and production testing requirements.
  • Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and related AMS design tools; scripting or MATLAB for analysis preferred.

Education Requirements

BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, or MS (electrical engineering or related) with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. (Cisco explicitly lists BSEE, MS and PhD with these experience thresholds and allows equivalent experience.)
