Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Hybrid role (three days per week in the San Jose, CA office) on the Mixed-Signal IC design team for Acacia. The team develops high-speed and high-accuracy analog/mixed-signal CMOS designs for optical transceivers used in 100G–1T networks.
Collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to integrate designs into production ASICs.
Experience Level
Senior — experience expectations: PhD +5 years, MS +8 years, or BSEE +12 years (or equivalent practical experience).
Responsibilities
Deliver and lead development of high-speed AMS ICs from architecture through production.
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks.
- Lead large-block design efforts, mentor engineers, manage deliverables and conduct peer reviews.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Develop and optimize high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, PLLs, data converters, regulators, amplifiers, equalizers).
- Support lab characterization, ESD practices, and design-for-manufacturability activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills; preferred/optional items listed separately.
- Design, simulation and measurement experience of high-speed ICs in at least three areas such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, or equalization.
- Experience with AMS simulation flows and Cadence toolchain (Virtuoso, Spectre, SpectreX) and Matlab.
- High-frequency/custom transistor layout and floorplanning experience for mixed-signal designs.
- Experience with lab characterization and ESD laboratory practices and methodology.
- Proven ability to lead complex IC designs through to production and mentor junior engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with FinFET technology, passive RF component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines) and EM extraction tools (EMX).
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
Education Requirements
BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience — or equivalent practical experience. Field: Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline (implied).
