Job Title
Senior Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group developing high-speed (β₯25Gb/s) and high-accuracy analog circuits for optical transceivers used in data center, metro, long-haul and ultra-long-haul markets. The role covers architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks that integrate into complex ASICs.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role leads large design blocks, mentors engineers, coordinates cross-functional reviews, and requires substantial prior hands-on mixed-signal IC design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading design and delivery of high-speed mixed-signal IC blocks and ensuring they meet system and manufacturing requirements.
- Architect, design, layout, characterize and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuits.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor team members and track deliverables.
- Participate in peer reviews and establish/design methodology from concept through production.
- Collaborate with digital/DSP, package, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity targets.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, data converters, PLLs, drivers, amplifiers, equalizers) and support bring-up and lab validation.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability and ESD requirements and support transfer to production.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (minimum requirements for consideration).
- Proven experience in high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC design, simulation and measurement for optical or electrical transceiver applications.
- Hands-on work in multiple of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serdes, serializers/deserializers, data converters), voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, operational amplifiers, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Experience taking designs from architecture through silicon bring-up and production readiness, including measurement and characterization.
- Strong skills in analog/mixed-signal circuit analysis, layout review and design-for-manufacturability principles.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with electrical transceiver systems (backplane/cable communications) and FinFET technologies.
- High-frequency layout experience (passives: inductors, transformers, transmission lines), floorplanning, and custom transistor layout.
- Experience with ESD lab practices and manufacturability testing.
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal AMS simulation flows.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications specify a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with ~12+ years of relevant experience, or an M.S. with ~8+ years, or a Ph.D. with ~5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced include Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines; equivalent industry experience is explicitly allowed.
