Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Design and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers within the Acacia mixed-signal IC design group. Work spans architecture, circuit design, layout, test, and production readiness for 100Gβ1T optical communication products.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office and involves close collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package, and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience expectations per degree: BS ~12+ years, MS ~8+ years, PhD ~5+ years (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end AMS block delivery and cross-discipline coordination.
- Architect, design, lay out, and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and blocks for CMOS-based optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large, complex IC blocks; own deliverables, schedules, and design reviews.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers; conduct peer reviews and enforce robust design methodology.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal- and power-integrity targets.
- Develop test plans, characterize silicon, and drive issues to production readiness.
- Apply DFM, ESD, and manufacturability practices during design and bring-up phases.
Requirements
Relevant hands-on technical skills and domain experience required. Education requirements are summarized separately below.
- Design, simulation and measurement experience of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, equalizers.
- Practical experience with mixed-signal simulations and tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, and Matlab.
- Experience with layout for high-frequency designs and understanding of transmission-line, inductors, transformers and passive component behavior.
- Track record of taking designs from concept through silicon validation and production qualification.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and photonic transceiver systems.
- Experience with FinFET technology and custom transistor layouts.
- Floorplanning experience (power/ground, digital/analog signal routing) and DFM expertise.
- Experience with EM simulation tools (EMX) and ESD lab practices.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications list degree-based experience options: BSEE with ~12+ years of relevant experience, MS with ~8+ years, or PhD with ~5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields implied: Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines. No specific certifications listed.
