Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Senior engineer on the Mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed and high-accuracy analog circuits for optical transceivers (100Gβ1T) that integrate into ASICs. The role is hybrid with three days per week in the San Jose, CA office and works closely with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typical experience 5+ years (guidance from hiring criteria: PhD with 5+ years, MS with 8+ years, BS with 12+ years, or equivalent practical experience).
Responsibilities
Engineer and lead design efforts across the analog/mixed-signal lifecycle, from concept through production.
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks.
- Lead a large block on complex chips, mentor engineers, track deliverables and drive peer reviews.
- Provide and enforce robust design methodology from specification to production transfer.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits and support system-level integration and validation.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and experience for this role; preferred items listed separately.
- Proven design, simulation and measurement experience on high-speed ICs across multiple areas (see examples below).
- Strong analog and mixed-signal design skills for high-speed serial links, serializers/deserializers and data converters.
- Experience with PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, output drivers, voltage regulators, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers and equalization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with measurement, characterization and bringing designs to production.
- Ability to lead block-level design activities, conduct peer reviews, and mentor team members.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- Experience with FinFET technology and high-frequency layout, including passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Floorplanning (power/ground, digital/analog routing), custom transistor layout and design-for-manufacturability experience.
- Experience with ESD lab practices and mixed-signal simulation tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX) and EM/AMS simulations.
Education Requirements
Degree guidance provided in the posting: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience; MS (or equivalent) with 8+ years; PhD (or equivalent) with 5+ years. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
