Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Senior analog/mixed-signal IC design engineer on the Acacia mixed-signal team, developing high-speed and high-accuracy analog circuits for optical transceivers (100G–1T) used in data center and telecom networks.
This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA with three days per week on-site. The role focuses on architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks that integrate into complex ASICs.
Experience Level
Senior — candidates typically meet one of: BSEE +12 years, MS +8 years, PhD +5 years, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading complex analog/mixed-signal design blocks and delivering production-ready ICs.
- Architect, design, lay out, measure and productize ultra-deep submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor engineers and track deliverables.
- Participate in peer reviews and establish robust design methodology from concept through production.
- Collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Perform lab measurements, validation and support yield and manufacturability efforts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven design, simulation and measurement experience on high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Hands-on experience with ultra-deep submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuit design and lab measurement.
- Experience delivering designs through production, including characterization and problem resolution.
- Ability to lead complex designs, mentor team members, and work cross-functionally with packaging and hardware teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- FinFET process experience and custom transistor layout skills.
- High-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Floorplanning for mixed-signal power/ground and routing; design-for-manufacturability and ESD lab practices.
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, MATLAB, EMX and mixed-signal/AMS simulation flows.
Education Requirements
Minimums documented by the employer: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 12+ years experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years experience; or PhD with 5+ years experience; or equivalent practical experience. Fields cited include electrical/electronic engineering or related technical disciplines.
