Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior mixed-signal IC designer responsible for architecture, circuit design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal blocks for high-speed optical transceivers (100G, 400G, 1T).

Member of the Acacia mixed-signal IC design group working with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to integrate circuits into complex ASICs. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office.

Experience Level

Senior β€” role requires substantial industry experience. Experience guidance from the posting: PhD with 5+ years, MS with 8+ years, or BS with 12+ years (equivalent experience accepted).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include leading large analog/mixed-signal design blocks through development and production and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Architect, design, layout, measure and productize CMOS analog and mixed-signal ICs for optical transceivers.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor engineers and track deliverables.
  • Participate in peer reviews and establish robust design methodology from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
  • Develop and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and contribute to mixed-signal simulations and characterization.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Design, simulation and measurement experience with high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES), serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
  • Practical experience with mixed-signal simulations and measurement techniques for RF/analog/high-speed links.
  • Ability to produce production-ready designs and to support validation and manufacturability efforts.
  • Strong debugging and laboratory measurement skills, including familiarity with ESD lab practices and test methodologies (preferred).
  • Nice-to-have: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, MATLAB, EMX and other circuit/EM tools; FinFET process experience; high-frequency passive layout (inductors, transformers, transmission lines); floorplanning and custom transistor layout; design for manufacturability experience.

Education Requirements

Degree and experience options listed in the posting: BSEE (or equivalent) with ~12+ years, MS with ~8+ years, or PhD with ~5+ years of relevant experience. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines. The posting also accepts equivalent practical experience in lieu of formal degrees.
