Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Hybrid role (three days per week in San Jose, CA) on the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team. The team develops high-speed analog and mixed-signal CMOS designs for optical transceivers used in data center, metro, long-haul and ultra-long-haul networks.
The engineer will design, validate, and productize high-speed AMS circuits and work with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to integrate designs into production ASICs.
Experience Level
Senior β senior-level engineering role. See Education Requirements for degree and years-of-experience equivalencies.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks for optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large/complex blocks, track deliverables, and ensure schedules are met from concept through production.
- Mentor and review work of other engineers; participate in peer reviews and establish sound design methodology.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Develop and qualify high-speed AMS circuits, including lab characterization and hands-on measurement.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education and degree-equivalencies are summarized under Education Requirements):
- Proven experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers (PGAs), and equalization.
- Practical experience taking analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept to production in advanced CMOS processes.
- Strong RTL/analog handoff understanding and ability to coordinate with digital/DSP, package and system teams for integration.
- Preferred (nice-to-have): experience with transceiver electrical applications (backplane/cable), FinFET processes, high-frequency/passive layout (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), floorplanning for power/ground and mixed-signal routing, custom transistor layout, design-for-manufacturability, ESD lab methodology, and mixed-signal simulation tools and flows (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX, AMS simulations).
Education Requirements
Degree and experience equivalencies stated in the source: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS (e.g., MSEE) with 8+ years of relevant experience, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience β or equivalent practical experience. Field implied: Electrical Engineering / analog/mixed-signal engineering. No specific certifications required.
