Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Senior member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group responsible for architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers. The team designs components for 100Gβ1T fiber-optic transmission products and collaborates with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Jose, CA office.
Experience Level
Senior β expects substantial relevant experience in high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC design. Typical hires have multiple years of industry experience (senior-level responsibility and leadership on complex chip blocks).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering complex analog/mixed-signal blocks for optical communications ASICs.
- Architect, design, lay out, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuits.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; mentor junior engineers and track deliverables.
- Participate in peer reviews and establish robust design methodology from concept through production.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, PLLs, data converters, equalizers, drivers) and ensure manufacturability and testability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- Extensive hands-on experience in analog/mixed-signal IC design, simulation and measurement for high-speed applications.
- Demonstrated work across at least three of these areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Strong layout and verification experience for high-speed circuits; understanding of signal and power integrity impacts.
- Experience taking designs through production: characterization, validation, and productization.
- Effective collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams (digital/DSP, package, system, test).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and FinFET technologies.
- High-frequency layout experience for passives (inductors, transformers, transmission lines) and custom transistor layouts.
- Floorplanning experience (power/ground, digital/analog routing) and design-for-manufacturability knowledge.
- ESD lab practice experience and mixed-signal simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX.
Education Requirements
Degree and experience combinations stated: BSEE with 12+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant analog/mixed-signal IC design experience β or equivalent practical experience. (Equivalent practical experience is accepted.)
