Senior Advanced ASIC Physical Design Engineer — Hybrid
Role Summary
Lead physical implementation of ASIC designs at Honeywell Microelectronics in Plymouth, MN. The role focuses on translating RTL into manufacturable GDSII for aerospace, military, and high-temperature applications across digital, analog, mixed-signal and high-bandwidth communication circuits.
Work includes floor-planning, power grid design, timing closure, DFT coordination, physical verification, documentation, project reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior — posting requires a minimum of 5 years of ASIC physical design experience and expects demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Translate customer RTL into physical ASIC implementation (RTL-to-GDSII).
- Perform floor-planning, power grid design and deployment, and achieve timing closure to constraints.
- Integrate DFT insertion with physical design flow and meet physical verification requirements.
- Execute physical design work on-site when required (for example, classified designs).
- Participate in project phase gate reviews and prepare design documentation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills and conditions:

Must-have: Minimum 5 years of ASIC physical design experience.

Must-have: US citizenship required; dual citizenship is not permitted due to contractual requirements.

Must-have: Ability and willingness to work on-site at Honeywell Plymouth, MN (zip 55441).

Must-have: Previously held USG Secret security clearance in good standing, or no known barriers to obtain one.

Nice-to-have: Experience with Synopsys EDA tools (Design Compiler, PrimeTime, IC Compiler, DFT Compiler, TetraMAX, IC Validator) and Siemens Calibre, Tessent.

Nice-to-have: Scripting skills (Perl, Shell, TCL, C) and proficiency with Linux and Windows.

Nice-to-have: Radiation effects analysis, advanced-node and SOI CMOS design experience, and Siemens physical verification experience.

Nice-to-have: Strong problem-solving, communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
Education Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (as stated in posting).
