Job Title
Semiconductor IC Custom Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on transistor-level custom gate design for digital and memory circuits at a leading U.S. semiconductor manufacturer. The role focuses on schematic capture, circuit simulation with parasitics, and collaboration across design, layout, and test teams.
This position supports custom logic and memory block development with attention to power, speed, and die-area tradeoffs.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Transistor-level schematic capture for memory arrays, control logic, address decoders, datapaths, and internal test logic.
- Perform circuit simulations and verification, including importing layout parasitics into the simulation environment.
- Debug circuits using simulation results and silicon measurements.
- Analyze architecture impacts on power, speed, and die area and recommend optimizations.
- Assist with design-for-layout and layout optimization of memory and logic circuits.
- Interpret device specifications to ensure required functionality.
- Communicate design intent and results with cross-functional internal and external teams.
- Adapt priorities and responsibilities to meet changing project needs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and traits:
- Experience with high-speed logic and clock design.
- Proficiency with circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE) and Verilog for verification.
- Ability to work with parasitic-extracted data and integrate it into verification flows.
- Experience contributing to the design, layout, and optimization of memory circuits.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Flexibility to change priorities to support business needs.
Education Requirements
BSEE or higher required; typically plus four or more years of related experience.
