Job Title

Semiconductor Device Modeling Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Compact Device Modeling Group within Intel's Design Technology Platform to develop, calibrate, and validate compact transistor models for advanced process technologies. The role supports device-to-circuit co-optimization to enable design teams and foundry customers.

Experience Level

Mid-level engineer. Typical background: 3+ years industry experience (Master's +3 years) or 5+ years device-related work following a Bachelor's; more experienced candidates (Ph.D.) are preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include model development, validation, and collaboration with process and design teams.

  • Develop, calibrate, and validate compact transistor models (e.g., BSIM-CMG) for FinFET and GAA technologies.
  • Use extraction tools and circuit simulators to extract device parameters and run benchmark circuits.
  • Implement layout-dependent effects, corners, and statistical variation in models; model self-heating effects.
  • Create methodologies for device targeting and benchmarking (e.g., ring oscillators) and perform circuit-level impact analysis.
  • Automate data analysis, model extraction, and documentation using scripting (Python).
  • Collaborate across process, characterization, design, and cross-geography teams to deliver models.

  • Must-have: Graduate coursework or research in semiconductor device physics or 5+ years of device-physics work experience.
  • Must-have: 1+ years of Python scripting for data analysis, automation, and documentation.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with compact-model workflows and model validation against device and circuit data.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with extraction tools (ICCAP, MBP) and commercial simulators (HSPICE, Spectre).
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with BSIM-CMG and modeling for advanced nodes, layout-dependent effects, OMI, and self-heating.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with process flow, layout impacts on device performance, and benchmarking methodologies.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience applying machine learning to data analysis or compact model development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with 5+ years of industry/device experience; OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with at least 3 years of industry experience; OR Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred, often with 3+ years' industry experience). Graduate coursework or research in semiconductor device physics is expected.
