Job Title

Semiconductor Device Engineer

Role Summary

As a Device Engineer on the Process Team, you will characterize semiconductor devices, design and automate electrical test infrastructure, and extract device parameters to inform process development. You will work across probe card and test structure design, silicon testing, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with process, test, and design engineers.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role at an early-stage hardware startup.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years of experience stated.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with process and electrical engineers to design probe cards and test structures.
  • Design and fabricate CMOS test chips for characterization and calibration.
  • Develop and execute test plans to extract device parameters (threshold voltage, mobility, leakage).
  • Deploy parameter extraction tools and device models (e.g., BSIM) for characterization and modeling.
  • Analyze test data and provide actionable feedback to process engineers.
  • Develop and maintain test automation and lab instrumentation workflows.
  • Document test results and characterization findings clearly and rigorously.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Strong understanding of CMOS device physics and electrical characterization.
  • Experience operating probe stations and lab instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with parameter extraction techniques and device modeling (e.g., BSIM).
  • Experience with test automation and instrumentation control.
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor device fabrication and test structures.
  • Ability to collaborate across process, test, and design teams and communicate results clearly.
  • Employment contingent on ability to comply with U.S. export control requirements.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with PDKs and test chip layout.
  • Experience with cleanroom fabrication and full CMOS process flow.
  • Experience conducting reliability testing and analysis.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
