SEM Technician

Role Summary

Operate and perform minor maintenance on scanning electron microscopes (SEMs) and related sample-preparation equipment in the YE lab within Technology Development at Micron's Singapore site. The role supports NAND development and cross-functional engineering teams by producing high-quality SEM imaging and construction analysis.

Work focuses on SEM operation, sample preparation (including safe use of acid hood and sputter coater), basic tool upkeep, and timely communication with process and integration engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Placement at the appropriate technician level will be based on prior experience and education; no specific years-of-experience requirement stated.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include SEM operation, sample preparation, and support for development engineers.

  • Operate SEMs and perform construction analysis with attention to detail.
  • Prepare samples and safely operate supporting equipment: acid hood, sputter coaters, ion millers, UV cleaners, etchers, micro-cleaving tools, and optical microscopes.
  • Provide SEM support across various NAND technology nodes.
  • Interact with process and integration engineers to manage requests, priorities, and results.
  • Communicate tool issues and support needs with internal team members and supplier representatives.
  • Troubleshoot tool issues, perform minor maintenance, and optimize tool performance.
  • Work rotating shifts as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and workplace capabilities.

  • Must-have: Practical experience operating SEM or FIB tools.
  • Must-have: Good understanding of FAB process steps (wet etch, dry etch, PVD, ALD, CMP, etc.).
  • Must-have: Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present findings.
  • Must-have: Problem-analysis skills and ability to implement resolutions.
  • Must-have: Basic PC skills, including Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, OneNote).
  • Must-have: Willingness to work any shift on a rotating schedule.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with minor tool maintenance and optimization.

Education Requirements

Associate degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
