Job Title
Security Diagnostics Software Engineer - Contract
Role Summary
Develop diagnostics software to bring up, validate, and qualify AMD security hardware IP across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments. Work with hardware architects, logic designers, firmware teams, and customer-facing engineers to identify root causes and close testing gaps.
Contract role on the diagnostics team focused on test development, debugging hardware/firmware interactions, and applying AI tools to accelerate test creation and failure analysis.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Years of experience: Not specified. Contract/temporary engagement.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include designing and executing diagnostics and tests for security IP and cryptographic accelerators, debugging hardware/firmware interactions, and delivering tooling to accelerate engineering workflows.
- Design and develop diagnostics software for pre-silicon (FPGA, SoC emulation) and post-silicon (ASIC, platform) bring-up.
- Plan, write, debug, and optimize functional and stress tests for security hardware IP and cryptographic acceleration engines.
- Participate in APU/GPU silicon bring-up and test execution across multiple concurrent programs.
- Identify and help resolve ASIC, board, and firmware issues; provide diagnostics support to internal teams and external customers.
- Develop and deploy AI-based tools and workflows to accelerate test development, failure triage, and debugging.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drive improvements to development processes.
- Analyze and debug external code and firmware to determine root causes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution. Preferred items noted separately.
- Proven experience in driver, embedded, or low-level software development working closely with hardware designers.
- Proficient in C/C++ and object-oriented programming.
- Linux familiarity; device driver or firmware development experience required.
- Hands-on experience with silicon and board bring-up and hardware/software interfacing.
- Experience with source control systems (Perforce, Git, SVN).
- Strong debugging and testing skills and clear technical communication.
- Hands-on Python experience and experience applying AI/ML frameworks and tooling (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LLM APIs) to engineering problems.
- Applied cryptography and security protocol knowledge (AES, SHA, RSA).
- Knowledge of virtual memory and IOMMU; experience with firmware loading and communication.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate across disciplines, and drive engineering tasks to completion.
- Location requirement: Must be able to work in Markham, ON; role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have: SystemVerilog experience; prior experience deploying AI solutions for test automation, log triage, or debug assistance.
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; equivalent practical experience accepted.
