Job Title

Security Diagnostics Software Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and maintain diagnostics software to bring up, validate, and qualify AMD security hardware IP across CPUs, GPUs, data center/AI accelerators, and gaming platforms. Work across pre-silicon (FPGA, SoC emulation) and post-silicon (ASIC, platform) environments with hardware architects, logic designers, firmware teams, and customer-facing engineers.

Primary duties include designing, writing, debugging, and optimizing functional and stress tests for security control hardware and cryptographic acceleration engines, and building AI-based tools and workflows to accelerate test development and failure triage. Location: Markham, ON. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify years of experience but expects prior experience in driver/embedded/low-level software development and silicon/board bring-up.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop diagnostics software to validate security IP features in pre- and post-silicon environments.
  • Plan, write, debug, and optimize functional and stress tests for security hardware and cryptographic acceleration engines.
  • Participate in APU/GPU silicon bring-up and test execution across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Identify and help resolve ASIC, board, and firmware issues; provide diagnostics support to internal teams and external customers.
  • Develop and deploy AI-based tools and workflows to accelerate test development, failure triage, and debug.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drive improvements to development processes.
  • Analyze and debug external code and firmware to root-cause functional issues.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Proven experience in driver, embedded, or low-level software development, working closely with hardware designers.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programming.
  • Linux experience; device driver or firmware development is required.
  • Hands-on experience with silicon and board bring-up.
  • Strong debugging, testing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with source control systems (Perforce, Git, SVN).

Nice-to-have:

  • Proven ability to develop and deploy AI/ML solutions for engineering workflows (test generation, log triage, debug assistance, automation).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Python and modern AI/ML frameworks and tooling (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LLM APIs and agent frameworks).
  • Experience with applied cryptography and security protocols (AES, SHA, RSA).
  • Knowledge of virtual memory, IOMMU, firmware loading and communication.
  • Familiarity with SystemVerilog (a plus).

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
