Sales Applications Engineer
Role Summary
The Sales Applications Engineer provides technical support to sales activities for Altera's programmable logic devices (FPGAs, CPLDs, SoCs) and associated design software. The role works with customers and the sales team to propose solutions, demonstrate products, and drive design wins.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Prefer 3β5 years of relevant experience in applications, design, or field applications engineering within the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical engagement with customers and support to the sales organization.
- Provide in-depth technical support to sales teams and customers, including architectural discussions and performance analysis.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and hands-on workshops for customers.
- Collaborate with customers to gather system requirements and propose optimal Altera solutions, including device selection and IP integration.
- Assist initial design implementations, debug issues, and recommend best practices for performance, power, and area targets.
- Prepare technical proposals, competitive analyses, and ROI justifications to support sales engagements.
- Serve as a technical liaison between customers and internal engineering/product teams, conveying customer feedback.
- Participate in account planning and strategy sessions to identify opportunities and accelerate design wins.
- Maintain knowledge of Altera product roadmaps, industry trends, and the competitive landscape.
- May require domestic and occasional international travel to customer sites and company events.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for effective performance in this role.
- 3β5 years of relevant technical experience in applications, design, or field applications engineering within the semiconductor industry.
- Strong understanding of FPGA architecture, digital design principles, and embedded systems.
- Proficiency with HDL languages (VHDL/Verilog) and experience with FPGA design tools such as Quartus Prime.
- Experience with embedded processors (e.g., ARM, Nios II) and associated software development.
- Familiarity with communication protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, USB) and memory interfaces (DDR).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluent written and verbal Japanese and English.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master's degree in a related technical field.
