Sales Applications Engineer
Role Summary
The Sales Applications Engineer provides technical support to sales and customers for Altera programmable logic devices (FPGAs, CPLDs, SoCs) and associated design tools. The role works with customers to define system requirements, demonstrate solutions, and support the sales cycle to secure design wins.
Reports to the sales organization and collaborates with product and engineering teams; occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Preferably 3β5 years in applications, design, or field engineering within the semiconductor or FPGA domain.
Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise across the sales cycle and support customers in product selection and early design implementation.
- Support sales teams and customers with architectural discussions, performance analysis, and feature explanations.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and hands-on workshops.
- Translate system-level requirements into device selection, IP integration, and software flow recommendations.
- Assist initial design implementations, debug issues, and advise on performance, power, and area trade-offs.
- Prepare technical proposals, competitive analyses, and ROI justifications for sales engagements.
- Act as liaison between customers and internal engineering/product teams, relaying customer feedback.
- Participate in account planning and coordinate with sales to identify opportunities and accelerate design wins.
- Maintain knowledge of product roadmaps, industry trends, and competitors.
- Travel to customer sites and events as required.
Requirements
Key technical and interpersonal requirements for the role.
- 3β5 years of technical experience in applications, design, or field engineering (semiconductor preferred).
- Strong understanding of FPGA architecture, digital design principles, and embedded systems.
- Proficiency with HDL (VHDL/Verilog) and FPGA design tools (for example, Quartus Prime).
- Experience with embedded processors (ARM, Nios II) and related software development.
- Familiarity with communication protocols and memory interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR, etc.).
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, analytical skills, and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Fluent in Chinese and English (written and verbal).
- Able to work independently and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
