Role Summary

The Safety Engineer will contribute to development of functionally safe semiconductor products within the Functional Safety Competence Center. The role defines and validates safety concepts and architectures, develops safety requirements, and performs safety analyses at IP and product levels.

The engineer works with systems, hardware, software, and implementation teams to deliver certifiable solutions and support customers in integrating NXP safety products.

Experience Level

Mid-level: typically 5–8 years of semiconductor product development experience with exposure to functional safety.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on safety concept development, analysis, verification support, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Define functional and technical safety concepts based on product architecture and intended functionality.
  • Capture and manage safety requirements using requirements-management tools.
  • Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels (FTA, DFA, FMEDA).
  • Support definition and review of safety verification and validation strategies.
  • Contribute to safety audits, assessments, and internal reviews.
  • Support customers in integrating and applying safety products, including tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams to ensure consistent implementation of safety concepts.

  • Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures applicable to automotive or industrial safety domains.
  • Strong understanding of IP and SoC level safety mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and associated development lifecycles and work products (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
  • Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA, and FMEDA.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in functional safety design within Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
  • Broad exposure to semiconductor product development (IP design, verification, DFT, physical implementation, tools).
  • Hands-on experience with safety analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Medini).
  • Experience in safety audits, assessments, and certification activities.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as ELM7.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
