RTL Design Engineer (Staff / Senior Staff)
QualcommJob Title
RTL Design Engineer (Staff / Sr Staff)
Role Summary
Senior hardware engineer responsible for RTL and hardware design, verification, validation, and bring-up for ASIC/SoC products. Work with cross-functional teams (design, verification, software, systems, architecture) to meet power, performance, area and quality targets across development and production.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires several years of hardware engineering experience. Minimum expectations start around 6+ years; senior/lead candidates often have 12+ years and prior technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead and execute RTL/logic design, validation and complex simulations to meet PPA (power, performance, area) targets.
- Plan, optimize, verify and test digital, mixed-signal and RF hardware; support bring-up and yield improvement activities.
- Develop and apply advanced design rules, test solutions and manufacturing approaches for leading-edge processes.
- Evaluate and characterize designs and materials for reliability; recommend design or process changes to improve quality and yield.
- Use schematic capture and circuit simulation tools; collaborate with teams to integrate FPGA, DSP and test systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship; write and review detailed technical documentation.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Extensive practical experience in hardware design and validation (digital/analog/RF and RTL/logic).
- Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools and with hardware test instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools).
- Experience with FPGA or DSP-based development and system bring-up.
- Proven ability to run complex simulations and optimize designs for power, performance and area.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and influencing technical decisions.
- Technical leadership experience (mentoring or leading small teams/projects) and strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience evaluating manufacturing solutions, automation/optimization of test flows, and work on leading-edge process technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or a related technical field. Typical combinations from the posting: Bachelor's +6+ years, Master's +5+ years, or PhD +4+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience. Master's degree is listed as preferred. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where indicated.
