RTL Design Engineer - Security (Staff)
QualcommJob Title
RTL Design Engineer - Security (Staff)
Role Summary
Design and implement micro-architecture and RTL for security-related processor cores and blocks. Work within the hardware engineering team to deliver block-level designs, verify RTL, and enable software teams to integrate and use hardware security features.
The role involves hands-on RTL development, running ASIC signoff and verification flows, and coordinating status and deliverables across cross-functional teams.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff) level. Preferred experience stated at 8–11 years in ASIC/SoC design; minimum experience requirements vary by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include RTL micro-architecture and block design for security cores, tool-driven flow execution, and cross-team integration.
- Define micro-architecture and implement RTL for security-related cores and blocks.
- Collaborate with software teams to enable use of hardware security blocks.
- Run ASIC development and verification tools (linting, CDC, LEC).
- Participate in design reviews, debug integration issues, and maintain design documentation.
- Report progress and risks to project stakeholders.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and useful skills for the role.
- Must-have: Proven RTL design experience using Verilog/SystemVerilog and hands-on ASIC/SoC design experience.
- Must-have: Experience with linting, CDC, and LEC flows.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog and familiarity with C/C++ for bring-up or tooling; scripting experience in Python or Perl.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of cryptography primitives and algorithms (AES, SHA, GMAC, public/private key, RNG, signatures).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with configuration/version-control and database flow tools such as ClearCase/ClearQuest.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and status-reporting skills.
Education Requirements
Posting requests a degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. It accepts equivalent practical experience and lists multiple degree/experience combinations: Bachelor's degree (variously listed with 2+ or 4+ years of hardware engineering experience), Master’s degree (3+ years), or PhD (2+ years). A Master’s is noted as preferred in one section.
