Job Title

RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop RTL logic and simulations for a CPU IP block used in cell libraries, functional units, and full-chip integration. Participate in microarchitecture definition, write micro-architectural specifications, optimize logic for power, performance, area, and timing, and support SoC teams for CPU block integration.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career. Typical candidates meet one of: a Bachelor’s in a STEM field with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Coursework or ~1+ year experience in digital design topics is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include RTL development, verification support, and design optimization.

  • Design and code RTL for CPU features; implement and maintain register-transfer level logic.
  • Participate in architecture and microarchitecture definition and document micro-architectural specs.
  • Write and run simulations; review verification plans and debug/resolve failing RTL tests.
  • Optimize logic to meet power, performance, area, and timing targets and ensure integrity for physical implementation.
  • Collaborate with SoC teams to integrate CPU IP and support customer integration issues.
  • Use synthesis and simulation tools and scripting to automate flows and validate designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Digital design and RTL coding experience in Verilog/SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
  • Familiarity with basic logic design, microprocessors, and computer architecture.
  • Experience with synthesis tools (e.g., Design Compiler, Genus).
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Perl, TCL) for automation and validation.
  • Ability to analyze RTL failures and implement corrective fixes.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with advanced verification methodologies (UVM/OVM).
  • Knowledge of low-power design techniques and physical design constraints/timing closure.
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, Perforce) and simulators (ModelSim, VCS, Xcelium).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or another STEM field with at least 2+ years of relevant experience, OR a Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. The posting also expects coursework or experience in logic design, microprocessors/computer architecture, digital design/RTL coding, Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL, synthesis tools, and scripting languages.
