Job Title

RISC-V CPU Microarchitecture / RTL Engineer

Role Summary

Owner of a RISC-V CPU unit microarchitecture and RTL implementation. Responsible for defining unit specifications, delivering high-quality RTL, driving verification strategy, and achieving PPA (power, performance, area) targets for units such as branch predictor, rename, scheduling, vector execution, and load/store subsystems.

This is a remote role based in the United States. Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; citizenship, permanent residency, or a government license may be required.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Tenstorrent considers candidates across seniorities and will determine the appropriate level during the interview process; no explicit years-of-experience requirement stated.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Define and document microarchitecture specifications for the assigned CPU unit, including verification and PPA strategy.
  • Design, implement, and optimize RTL for the unit; ensure RTL quality and PPA closure.
  • Drive and refine unit-level verification environments and methodologies.
  • Apply RTL optimizations and trade-offs to meet performance, area, and power goals.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate design and verification workflows.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across architecture, verification, and physical design teams.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Proven track record designing high-performance CPU RTL (x86, Arm, POWER, SPARC, or RISC-V).
  • Deep understanding of design verification strategies and trade-offs (simulation, formal methods, checkers).
  • Strong knowledge of CPU microarchitecture and PPA trade-offs.
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Basic familiarity with the RISC-V architecture; experience with the V-extension is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
