Job Title

RISC-V CPU Microarchitecture / RTL

Role Summary

Owner for a RISC-V CPU unit RTL and microarchitecture, responsible for unit specification, RTL design, verification strategy, and PPA closure. The role collaborates with architects, verification, and physical design teams to deliver production-quality CPU units.

This is a remote role for candidates based in the United States or Spain.

Experience Level

Multiple experience levels considered (entry through senior). The interview process will determine the appropriate level and final offer.

Responsibilities

Design, verify, and optimize a CPU unit from microarchitecture through RTL and PPA.

  • Define and document microarchitecture specifications for assigned unit(s) (e.g., branch predictor, rename, instruction scheduling, vector execution, load/store).
  • Write, review, and deliver high-quality RTL; ensure design meets performance, power, and area targets.
  • Drive unit verification strategy and environment; collaborate on simulation, formal checks, and coverage goals.
  • Work with physical design and architecture teams to close PPA trade-offs.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate design and optimization where appropriate.
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in cross-functional design reviews.

Requirements

Key technical skills and conditions required for the role. Items labeled "Nice-to-have" are preferred but not mandatory.

  • Must-have: Proven track record designing high-performance CPU RTL for architectures such as x86, Arm, POWER, SPARC, or RISC-V.
  • Must-have: Deep understanding of CPU microarchitecture and PPA trade-offs, and experience applying RTL optimizations for PPA.
  • Must-have: Strong design verification knowledge and experience with simulation, formal methods, and verification methodologies.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in HDLs such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work across disciplines.
  • Must-have: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must-have (employment condition): Eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology; offers may be contingent on citizenship, permanent residency, or ability to obtain required licenses.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with RISC-V architecture and V-extension.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience using AI-assisted design tools to speed development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
