Job Title

RFIC - PLL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver analog and digital phase-locked loop (PLL) and frequency-generation (LOGEN) solutions for wireless SoCs. Work within Apple's wireless RFIC team to architect, implement, characterize, and drive PLL designs to mass production.

Collaborate with RF/analog, systems, VLSI/RTL, verification, test, and firmware teams to integrate PLLs into high-performance wireless connectivity products.

Experience Level

Senior (posting refers to "Sr. RFIC - PLL Design Engineer"); no explicit years-of-experience stated.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement analog and digital PLLs and LOGEN circuits for wireless SoCs.
  • Develop PLL building blocks: TDCs, digital filters, sigma-delta modulators, prescalers, MMD, DCO/VCOs, PFD/CP.
  • Perform silicon characterization, bring-up, debug, and performance optimization of PLL/LOGEN circuits.
  • Define and execute mixed-signal verification plans (SystemVerilog/AMS) and debug silicon issues with verification and test teams.
  • Collaborate with RF/analog, baseband, and system teams to meet system-level specifications and production requirements.
  • Drive designs through to mass production, including calibration strategies and validation.

Requirements

Key required skills and experience:

  • Experience in design and development of analog and digital PLLs and LOGEN for high-performance applications.
  • Hands-on experience designing PLL building blocks: TDC, digital filters, sigma-delta modulators, prescalers, MMD, DCO/VCOs, and PFD/CP.
  • Understanding of analog, mixed-signal and RF circuit design concepts, including LNAs, PAs, mixers, baseband filters, VGAs, and calibration methods.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal verification methodologies (SystemVerilog, AMS).
  • Experience in silicon characterization and debug of PLLs and frequency-generation circuits.

Education Requirements

Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree. No specific field of study or additional academic credentials specified in the posting.
