Job Title
RFIC Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Work on RF/analog layout for wireless SoC transceivers within Apple's wireless silicon organization. Deliver block-level and top-level layout through full verification, collaborate with circuit designers, and integrate layouts into top-level tapeout flows.
Focus on energy-efficient RF design, reliability, and manufacturability while coordinating with cross-functional teams (RF/Analog, VLSI/RTL, verification, test, firmware/software).
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, and integration of RFIC layout.
- Perform block-level and top-level layout and full verification flows (extraction, DRC, LVS, DFM).
- Collaborate with circuit designers on floorplanning and layout approaches to meet performance and yield targets.
- Review layouts for power/ground routing, electromigration, RC delay, signal integrity, differential and IQ matching, and signal coupling.
- Integrate top-level layout and perform verification for tapeout; manage layout schedules and milestones.
- Identify failure-prone circuit and layout structures and propose corrective actions with designers.
- Communicate status and issues effectively with multi-functional teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience in custom RF/analog layout for radio transceivers.
- Extensive knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS processes (16 nm and below) and FinFET layout considerations.
- Strong understanding of RC delay, electromigration, coupling, and signal integrity issues in advanced processes.
- Hands-on experience with layout verification flows: extraction, DRC, LVS, and DFM checks.
- Ability to perform power/gnd routing checks and evaluate electromigration and IR drop risks.
- Good communication skills and experience working with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Nice-to-have: top-level integration experience, schedule management for layout deliverables.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS) is required; the posting specifies BS plus 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
