RFIC Design Engineering Intern
QorvoJob Title
RFIC Design Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Internship position within the Advanced Cellular RFIC design group. The intern will support RFIC design activities including architecture studies, simulation, layout and lab characterization for cellular and Wi‑Fi applications (≈700 MHz–7 GHz).
This is a mentored, project-based role that provides hands-on design and testing experience across schematic, simulation and layout workflows.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Internship — intended for current college students (see Education Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Work on assigned RFIC design tasks under mentorship; responsibilities may include:
- Perform architectural and feasibility studies for RFIC blocks (PA, LNA, RF switch) and system-level considerations.
- Design and simulate active/passive RF circuits using tools such as ADS, Cadence and HFSS.
- Contribute to circuit layout and follow the IC design flow from schematic to assembled circuit.
- Support lab testing and characterization alongside applications engineers to optimize RF performance.
- Prepare and present results in design reviews; document findings.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong background in RF/microwave circuit design, analog circuits, and electromagnetics.
- Experience with RF/analog/EM simulation tools such as ADS, Cadence and HFSS.
- Practical skills in simulation-driven design and basic layout workflows.
- Good research, analytical and verbal/written communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing RFIC/MMIC blocks (PAs, LNAs, switches, couplers, filters) using GaAs, SiGe, SOI or CMOS technologies.
- PCB or passive component design experience (filters, inductors, transformers, antennas).
- Familiarity with RF test equipment (signal generator, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer).
- Data analysis/programming skills (MATLAB, Python, JMP, Spotfire, ADS AEL) and publication experience.
Education Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a B.S. (senior only), M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
