Job Title
RFIC Design Engineer (mmWave & Sub‑THz)
Role Summary
Design mmWave and sub‑THz RFIC blocks (TX/RX chains, mixers, LO multiplication, clock distribution, RF front ends) from schematic through layout in advanced SiGe and CMOS processes. Model high‑frequency effects and integrate blocks into system‑level interconnect products for data‑center applications.
Product‑focused role on Point2 Technology's RFIC team; work closely with system, package, test, and verification engineers. Multiple positions open across levels.
Experience Level
Mid‑career (3–7 years) is the primary target; hiring includes mid‑level and senior candidates. Guidance from posting: Ph.D. +3 years or M.S. +5 years for advertised roles.
Responsibilities
Hands‑on RFIC design, simulation, verification, and integration for high‑frequency silicon used in data‑center interconnects.
- Design RFIC blocks including sub‑THz and mmWave RX/TX amplifiers, mixers, LO generation/multipliers, clock distribution, and RF front ends.
- Perform schematic‑level and layout‑level design in SiGe and advanced CMOS technologies.
- Model and analyze parasitics, coupling, EM behavior, and transmission‑line interactions; use EM simulation where required.
- Use Cadence, EMX, HFSS (as applicable), and Calibre for design, simulation, and verification flows.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate RFIC blocks into system architecture and participate in design reviews and performance optimization.
- Contribute to productization activities: silicon bring‑up, test correlation, and design iteration toward shipped products.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate success in the role.
- Hands‑on RFIC block design experience at mmWave or sub‑THz frequencies (20 GHz and above).
- Experience across key RFIC blocks: TX/RX chains, mixers, LO multiplication, clock distribution, RF front ends.
- Strong understanding of high‑frequency IC fundamentals: EM effects, parasitics, layout impacts, and transmission‑line behavior.
- Proficiency with Cadence and Calibre; experience with EM tools such as EMX. Demonstrated Unix/SKILL scripting is a plus.
- Demonstrated productization experience (silicon that progressed to silicon/test, not research only).
Nice-to-have:
- Direct sub‑THz design exposure (examples: 28–60 GHz and beyond).
- 5G mmWave system background and test experience.
- Experience with HFSS or similar 3D EM simulators.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and multitasking in fast‑moving product development environments.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant industry experience. (No alternative degree or "equivalent experience" language was specified in the posting.)
