RFIC Design Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Internship position on RFIC design teams working in High Performance Analog, Advanced Cellular, or Connectivity & Sensors business groups. Work involves specification, design, simulation, and verification of RF and analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits and hands-on lab support.

This is a time-limited college internship focused on skill development in RFIC design, layout interaction, simulation, and hardware test.

Responsibilities

Typical intern responsibilities include design, simulation, and laboratory support for RFIC projects. Specific assignments depend on business needs.

  • Specify, design, analyze and simulate RF and analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits.
  • Implement RF blocks such as power amplifiers, LNAs, RF switches, phase shifters, and attenuators in silicon technologies.
  • Model and simulate parasitics using electromagnetic and extraction tools.
  • Balance performance requirements with size, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Support hardware assembly, test and debugging in a laboratory setting.
  • Document results and present findings in written and verbal reviews; participate in peer design reviews.

Requirements

Key technical skills and capabilities expected for successful candidates.

  • RF/analog circuit design coursework or practical experience.
  • Familiarity with RF simulation tools such as Cadence Spectre/SpectreRF, ADS, FEM, Momentum, or similar.
  • Proficiency with circuit layout practices using Cadence Virtuoso, or the ability to guide layout designers on analog layout techniques.
  • Some experience with programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, or similar) is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving ability.

Education Requirements

Internship program accepts students enrolled in accredited Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD programs. This specific role requires current enrollment in an MS or PhD program in Electrical Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
