RFIC Design Engineer
AppleJob Title
RFIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design RF/analog integrated circuits and radio transceiver building blocks for wireless SoCs and drive designs through characterization to mass production within the Wireless Radio team.
Work cross-functionally with RF systems, test, digital teams, and product groups to translate system requirements into IC-level implementations and ensure production compliance.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting requests approximately 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver transistor- through block-level RFIC designs and support productization.
- Perform hands-on circuit design from concept and topology to transistor-level implementation, simulation, and extraction.
- Design transmitter, receiver, and PLL/LO generator building blocks and integrate them into RF chains.
- Perform power, area, performance trade-off analysis and feasibility studies.
- Collaborate with RF Systems to set block specifications and allocate margins across the chain.
- Design RF/analog loopbacks and calibration schemes for compensation and testability.
- Address coexistence scenarios and ensure designs meet CoEx requirements.
- Work with RFIC test engineers on setup, debugging, silicon characterization, and production optimization.
- Provide silicon-to-design correlation and verify compliance with volume-production specifications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience.
- Strong understanding of analog design concepts: noise, linearity, mismatch, stability, and other analog impairments.
- Practical experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre RF, MATLAB, and EM simulation tools (EMX, HFSS) or equivalents.
- Experience with RF CMOS, analog, and mixed-signal circuit design including LNAs, PAs, PLLs/VCOs, mixers, filters, amplifiers, and data converters.
- Experience in silicon characterization, debugging, and correlating measurements to design.
- Ability to collaborate with digital design and system architecture teams to optimize partitioning between analog and digital domains.
- Familiarity with mixed-signal verification methodologies (SystemVerilog, AMS, Nanotime) is a plus.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) and 3+ years of relevant industry experience. Preferred: MSEE or PhD and additional relevant industry experience. (Degrees explicitly listed in the posting.)
