RF Validation Engineer II
Silicon LabsJob Title
RF Validation Engineer II
Role Summary
Work on the IoT Validation team to validate RF and PHY-MAC designs for low-power wireless System-on-Chip products. The role covers pre-silicon testing, silicon bring-up, RF lab measurements, data analysis, and cross-functional support to ensure RF performance and product readiness.
The team focuses on multiple wireless technologies including Bluetooth Low Energy, 802.15.4 (Zigbee/Thread), 802.11 Wi‑Fi, Wi‑SUN and proprietary short-range wireless.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Engineer II). Preferred 1–3 years of industry experience per the minimum qualifications.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and validate PHY configurations for Zigbee, BLE, Wi‑SUN, Z‑Wave, MBus and proprietary PHYs on Silicon Labs RF SoCs.
- Perform pre-silicon testing using block/chip-level test benches and FPGA emulation.
- Bring up and validate RF IP on silicon; provide actionable feedback to cross-functional teams.
- Perform RF lab measurements (RX sensitivity, frequency/baudrate/deviation tolerance, blocking, TX output power, etc.).
- Analyze measurement data, generate reports and presentations, and provide training as needed.
- Support IC Design, Applications, Firmware, PTE, SQA, Systems and Modules teams with RF performance insights.
- Advise software teams on RF software implementations and help build a scalable test infrastructure and tooling.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills.
Must-have:
- Experience using Python or other high-level modeling languages/tools for designing and evaluating communication systems and algorithms.
- Strong understanding of analog signal fundamentals and basic circuit components.
- Hands-on experience with RF signal chains (LNAs, mixers, PAs, A/D and D/A converters).
- Familiarity with digital modulation formats (MSK/FSK, OQPSK, OOK/ASK, etc.).
- Proficiency with standard RF lab instruments (signal generator, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, oscilloscope, DMM, SMU).
- Knowledge of wireless communications standards such as Bluetooth Low Energy, 802.15.4, and 802.11 Wi‑Fi.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to drive work independently.
Nice-to-have:
- Basic DSP knowledge (up/down sampling, FIR filtering).
- Experience with revision control and configuration management systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) is required. The posting specifies 1–3 years of industry experience in mixed-signal SoCs with RF signal chain.
