RF Technology Development Device Engineer (2027 New College Graduate)
Role Summary
Join GlobalFoundries' RF Technology Development team in Essex Junction, VT to develop, simulate, fabricate, and characterize RF semiconductor devices (primarily SiGe HBT). The role supports device design, process integration, electrical and RF measurement, and technical problem solving for technology development.
Experience Level
Entry-level — New college graduate. Position is intended for recent graduates; industry experience is not required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Perform TCAD simulation, device design, and electrical characterization of SiGe HBT and related devices.
- Conduct theoretical studies and simulations to optimize device performance and benchmark versus state-of-the-art.
- Collaborate with process integration and fabrication teams to support device fabrication and yield improvements.
- Establish technology design rules, test structures, and test methodologies.
- Perform DC and RF characterization and analysis, including high-power measurements, S-parameters, and load-pull.
- Lead technical problem solving and continuous process/device improvement efforts; analyze and interpret test data.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders and respond to technical queries.
- Perform work in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have skills and attributes:
- Research background in CMOS, III-V, or memory device physics, semiconductor processing, and characterization.
- Strong data analysis skills.
- Experience or familiarity with DC and RF measurements (S-parameters, load-pull) and high-frequency device analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- English fluency (written and verbal).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with silicon or SiGe BiCMOS FEOL or BEOL processing and process development.
- Research experience in RF device design, high-frequency measurement and analysis.
- Experience with Cadence or other layout and simulation tools.
- Prior internship or co-op experience, leadership in projects or competitions, and project management skills.
Education Requirements
Graduating with a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or another relevant engineering or physical science discipline from an accredited degree program. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0. English language proficiency required.
