Job Title

RF Module Design Engineering Intern

Role Summary

This is an internship in the High Performance Analog division supporting RF and analog product design for Defense & Aerospace and Infrastructure markets. Projects vary based on business and technology needs and will involve hands-on RF module design, simulation, and lab characterization.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current college students (no specific years of professional experience required). Intended for students enrolled in undergraduate senior, Master’s, or PhD programs.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship may include:

  • Contribute to design and analysis of RF modules for cellular base stations, radar, satellite, and GPS systems.
  • Balance performance targets with constraints on size, cost, footprint, and schedule; perform trade studies to guide design decisions.
  • Adapt designs to meet ruggedness, ESD, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management to meet design targets and schedules.
  • Produce schematics, run simulations, and compare simulated results to lab measurements.
  • Use lab equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters) to characterize hardware.
  • Maintain detailed design documentation and follow established design flows and policies.

Requirements

Key skills and attributes expected for successful candidates:

  • Technical: Working knowledge of radio systems.
  • Tools: Very good working knowledge of one or more RF design and analysis tools such as ADS, AWR, FEM, HFSS, Momentum, Dynamic Link, Python, Spotfire, or Matlab.
  • Lab experience: Hands-on experience with RF circuit testing and measurement is desirable (fabrication/testing experience is a plus).
  • Soft skills: Strong collaboration, effective written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personal: Self-starter with good communication skills.

Education Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program. Preferred fields: Electrical Engineering or Physics. Senior undergraduate students with sufficient coursework and laboratory experience who plan to continue into a graduate program may be considered. Candidates should have completed upper-level RF analog circuit design and electromagnetics courses. Minimum GPA expectation: 3.0.
