RF/mmW Device Engineer

Role Summary

Join Apple's mmWave and cellular wireless design team to evaluate, design, simulate, and productize mmWave active and passive devices for high-frequency communication silicon. The team focuses on highly integrated, power-efficient wireless hardware and platform benchmarking across technology nodes.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include device design, measurement, modeling, and benchmarking at mmWave frequencies.

• Design, simulate, and characterize active and passive devices and demonstrator circuits at mmWave frequencies.
• Extract figures of merit and benchmark device and circuit performance at mmWave frequencies.
• Perform sensitivity analyses on mmWave circuits by tuning model parameters.
• Develop custom mmWave devices and models to improve circuit performance.
• Research and develop advanced calibration and measurement techniques.
• Evaluate and specify test instruments; develop and calibrate test fixtures and setups.
• Automate repetitive measurements using standard scripting languages.

Requirements

Core technical skills and hands-on experience required for the role.

• Solid foundation in semiconductor physics.
• Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, vector signal generator, vector signal analyzer).
• Experience with wafer probe stations and on-wafer mmWave characterization techniques such as scattering parameters, source-load pull, and thermal noise.
• Proficiency with measurement automation tools and scripting languages such as Python and MATLAB.
• Experience with electronic device simulations at high frequencies and extraction of mmWave figures of merit (preferred).
• Strong RF background and familiarity with RF circuit fundamentals (preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills (preferred).

Education Requirements

Required: B.S. in Physics or Electrical Engineering. Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in Semiconductor Physics or Electrical Engineering.
