Job Title
Analog Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed IP within the Synopsys IPG team in Markham. Work spans transistor-level design, layout supervision, silicon bring-up, validation, and cross-site collaboration to produce manufacturable, high-performance IP for SoCs.
Experience Level
Mid-level β the role typically expects several years of industry experience (see Education Requirements for specific degree/experience guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include translating system requirements into block designs, implementing transistor-level circuits, and supporting silicon validation.
- Design and optimize analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed IP (100Gbps, 200Gbps, and beyond), including PLLs, SerDes analog front-ends, clocking circuits, and data converters.
- Perform transistor-level design and simulation across process, voltage, and temperature corners.
- Supervise layout implementation; manage parasitics, matching, shielding, and current density considerations.
- Translate system-level specifications (jitter, BER, bandwidth, power) into detailed block-level requirements and test plans.
- Support silicon bring-up, validation, and lab debugging to converge designs to silicon-proven IP.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design methodology and architectural improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; a short list of preferred additions follows.
- Hands-on analog and mixed-signal IC design experience with high-speed SerDes, PLL/CDR, analog front-end, or data converters; demonstrated architecture-level contributions.
- Strong foundation in analog circuit principles, device physics, and transistor-level design in deep-submicron CMOS.
- Proficiency with HSPICE or equivalent transistor-level simulation tools.
- Understanding of layout effects and post-layout verification practices.
- Ability to define block-level specifications from system requirements and to apply rigorous simulation and debug methodology (PVT corners, Monte Carlo, loop stability analysis).
Nice-to-have
- Experience with silicon validation and lab debugging.
- Prior work on high-speed IP used in computing, mobile, or automotive applications.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years' experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 1+ years' experience, or equivalent practical experience. (The source explicitly allows equivalent practical experience.)
