Job Title

RF/Microwave Amplifier MMIC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop RF/microwave/millimeter-wave GaAs and GaN amplifier MMICs (LNA, driver, power amplifier) for communications, test & measurement, industrial, and aerospace/defense applications. Work on simulation, layout, measurement, and transfer-to-manufacturing within the RF/Microwave Amplifier MMIC Design Group.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to validate designs and support product integration and production.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career β€” guidance: 0–3 years of relevant industry experience (new graduates are eligible).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, simulation, measurement, and documentation of amplifier MMICs.

  • Conceive and design RF/microwave/millimeter-wave amplifier circuits and topologies for MMIC implementation.
  • Perform EM and thermal simulation and circuit-level simulations to validate performance.
  • Create and verify MMIC layouts and prepare designs for tape-out and fabrication.
  • Characterize prototypes using RF test equipment and analyze measurement data.
  • Collaborate with device/modeling, packaging, test, and manufacturing teams to transfer designs to production.
  • Document design intent, test procedures, and results; support troubleshooting and yield improvement.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, work-authorization, and behavioral skills.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident (green card holder); other applicants may require export licensing approval.
  • Practical experience with GaAs and/or GaN semiconductor technologies and MMIC design/layout.
  • Proficiency with industry EDA and simulation tools such as Cadence, ADS, AWR, Ansys HFSS, Momentum, RFPro, and Sonnet.
  • Experience with RF/microwave test equipment and measurement techniques (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, etc.).
  • Knowledge of device physics and device modeling relevant to GaAs/GaN MMICs.
  • Strong teamwork and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: PA linearization and efficiency enhancement experience; microwave/millimeter-wave system-level design experience.

Education Requirements

BSEE, MSEE, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a background in RF/microwave engineering. Ph.D. research in relevant areas may be counted toward industry experience depending on the thesis.
