Job Title

RF/Analog IC Design Intern

Role Summary

Work as an RF/Analog IC design intern within the Connectivity & Sensors group. Support circuit design, simulation, test, and verification tasks for RF, analog, mixed-signal and digital SoC projects. Projects and responsibilities are assigned based on business needs and are performed under mentorship of experienced engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Intern). Internship for students currently enrolled in degree programs.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement RF, analog, power-management, mixed-signal and digital SoC circuits to meet customer specifications.
  • Balance performance with size, cost, power dissipation, and schedule constraints.
  • Run circuit simulations and partner with technicians to perform lab testing and compare simulated data to measurements.
  • Design and test RF blocks (PA, LNA, switch, mixer, VCO/PLL), analog/MS blocks (Gm-C/SC filters, ADC/DAC), and digital interfaces or modem logic as required.
  • Perform transistor-level design, simulation, and layout; support RTL simulation, synthesis, and place-and-route when needed.
  • Develop or maintain automated/regression simulation scripts and environments.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills; degree enrollment and GPA are listed under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); strong written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detail; self-starter.
  • Must-have: Scripting experience in one or more of SKILL, Python, TCL, or bash.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with IC design and verification tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys toolchain, Mentor Calibre, and simulation tools (Xcelium, Dynamic Link) as applicable.
  • Preferred: Exposure to RF measurement equipment (signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, power meters) and analog/RF measurement techniques.
  • Preferred: Experience with transistor-level design, layout, RTL simulation/synthesis, and place-and-route flows.
  • Preferred: Experience with EM/field solvers and microwave tools (ADS, HFSS, Momentum), 3D CAD or mechanical FEA.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (BS/MS/PhD in progress). Minimum GPA 3.0 required.
