Job Title

Research Scientist

Role Summary

Join the Office of the Chief Technology Officer to perform research and development on optoelectronic and optical technologies including light sources, lasers, sensors, and light–matter interactions. Work will span experimental testbed design, device characterization, simulation, and collaboration with product engineering teams to mature technologies for semiconductor manufacturing.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years-of-experience guidance provided.

Responsibilities

The role combines hands-on experimental work, modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and operate optical and electronic device test benches to probe light–matter interactions.
  • Perform optical and optoelectronic device physics simulations using tools such as Zemax, COMSOL, Lumerical, or equivalent.
  • Design, build, and operate vacuum-based experimental equipment and test setups.
  • Execute materials characterization and spectroscopic measurement methods to evaluate devices and materials.
  • Analyze data, document results, and communicate technical findings clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance technology roadmaps and transition mature research into products.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes for initial screening:

  • Strong background in semiconductor physics, optics, light–matter interactions, and semiconductor processing.
  • Practical experience constructing and operating optical/electronic test systems and vacuum equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with materials characterization and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Proficiency in device physics simulation tools (examples: Zemax, COMSOL, Lumerical).
  • Proactive collaborator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Education Requirements
